Abstract

The challenge in implementing the independent curriculum lies in the readiness and courage of schools to be able to explore, innovate and create in accordance with the needs of schools and students so that the independent curriculum can be implemented properly. Schools that cannot keep up with the times will be eroded by the changes of the times, while schools that are active and follow every development of the times can implement an independent curriculum as it is now. This research uses a type of qualitative research with a phenomenological approach.  This approach will help researchers understand the meaning and perception of teachers regarding the challenges they face in implementing the curriculum. The main instrument in this study is the researcher himself.   Researchers act as instruments that play a role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. The data collection methods used in this study were interviews, and documentation. Data presentation is carried out by compiling data that has been selected and filtered in an easy-to-understand form, either in the form of narratives, tables, or graphs. The results of the study show that SMPN 1 Sidamanik teachers face challenges in implementing the independent curriculum.  The challenges faced by the teachers of SMPN 1 Sidamanik, teachers experience obstacles in implementing the independent curriculum, the double burden of teachers with the existence of the Independent Teaching Platform (PMM), the harvest of results at the end of each process through the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5).  The efforts made by teachers to face challenges in implementing the independent curriculum are by habituation, peer learning, and participating in workshops related to the independent curriculum
