Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of the non-formal education institution, Pondok Calistung Abi, in improving the basic literacy skills of early childhood. This institution focuses on teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic for children aged 3 to 12 years. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving observations, interviews, and documentation. The study was conducted at Pondok Calistung Abi, located on Jl. Raya Kemiri, Jayakerta District, Karawang Regency, with the subjects consisting of the management, teachers, and students. The results of the study show that effective management in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising learning greatly influences the improvement of children's basic literacy skills. Learning based on educational games, the use of visual media, and attention to the social and emotional aspects of children has significantly supported the development of basic literacy. Clear task distribution among teachers and intensive attention to the individual needs of students were also key factors in the success of this institution. However, the challenges faced by Pondok Calistung Abi include managing an increasing number of students, which requires an increase in the number of teachers and supporting facilities. Therefore, professional development for teachers and improving learning facilities are essential steps to maintain the quality of education. This study shows that non-formal education institutions can make a significant contribution to improving the basic literacy of early childhood, especially when managed well.
