Abstract

The world of education must have students who possess 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication (the 4Cs), as the world becomes increasingly global. Teachers are very important for creating learning plans that enhance science and biology skills by integrating science literacy, technology, and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The purpose of this study is to understand how junior high school science teachers comprehend, experience, and utilize strategies for lesson planning that supports 21st-century competencies. Ten junior high school science teachers who were purposively selected for this study were interviewed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The research results indicate that the majority of educators have understood the concept of 21st-century learning and are beginning to implement it using digital technology, projects, and inquiry. Implementation in the field, however, still faces challenges such as limited resources, time constraints, and differences in student abilities. Nevertheless, the instructors demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation thru training, collaboration, and the use of accessible media. Overall, the 21st-century competency-based science learning planning shows good signs of progress and should continue to be improved thru the provision of facilities, policies, and ongoing professional development for teachers.
