Abstract

The development of children and adolescents is a gradual process that involves physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes. Each stage presents distinct characteristics that shape how learners acquire knowledge, interact with others, and respond to their educational environment. This study aims to describe the developmental characteristics of children and adolescents and explain their implications for educational practice. The research employs a literature review approach by analyzing theoretical sources related to learner development and instructional methods. The findings indicate that teachers’ understanding of developmental stages is crucial for the success of learning, particularly in selecting strategies, methods, and educational services that align with learners' needs. The application of developmentally appropriate approaches has been shown to enhance students’ motivation, foster discipline, and support more effective classroom interactions. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating knowledge of child and adolescent development into all aspects of instructional planning and implementation.
